Easing Into the New Year
With Enrique Collazo and Devon Sangster Rath
December 27, 2027 - January 2, 2028
Open to experienced and new practitioners.
Registration closes on December 20th, 2026. If joining after this date, please contact us.
For many of us, the new year arrives carrying a familiar pressure: set goals, make changes, become better somehow. But what if the most meaningful way to begin a new year isn’t by striving toward a future version of ourselves? What if it starts by slowing down long enough to listen deeply to our lives as they already are?
In Buddhist practice, transformation rarely comes from force. It comes from seeing clearly. The turning of the calendar offers a natural invitation to pause, step out of our habitual momentum, and pay attention. Through insight practice, the cultivation of the Brahmaviharas — kindness, compassion, joy, and balance — and intentional Relational Mindfulness, this retreat creates the conditions for wisdom and compassion to emerge not only within ourselves but also between us.
Yoga and movement teacher, Selena La’Chelle Collazo, will offer liberation practices that support deep rest and inner listening, creating space for the body, heart, and mind to soften into the work of integration, restoration, and healing.
WHAT TO EXPECT ON THIS RETREAT
This is a mindfulness retreat with alternating periods of meditation, reflection, Dharma talks, time in nature, and embodied practices.

GENEROSITY: Retreat Costs and Fees
Registration fees for this retreat support the cost of developing and offering BBRC programs, which include lodging, meals, and staff compensation. Teacher compensation is not included in your registration fees. We price fees to make programs as financially accessible as possible.
As part of this tradition, many meditation teachers (including the teachers of this retreat) offer their teachings without set fees or compensation. As a practice of generosity from the heart, participants are invited to offer “teacher dana” (donations-generosity) to the teachers at the end of the retreat. It is encouraged but not required. Learn more about dana here.
Is cost a barrier? Scholarships are available for those with reviewed, demonstrated financial need. Due to limited funds, not all requests can be honored. We ask that financial assistance be prioritized for those who self-identify as BIPOC, hold marginalized identities, or are in financial need. For more information, please contact us at guestservices@bigbearretreatcenter.org.
